The Sensor For The Black Pepper

    Project Description

The sensor can measure and analyse a variety of essential soil properties that significantly affects the pepper’s yield. Besides, it also provides the most important type of information needed for precision agriculture.

The sensor is designed to measure soil elements of the first three horizons, which are organic, surface, and subsoil. These three horizons significantly impact the pepper’s health. This is achieved by using the big data gathered by this technology to guide both immediate and future decisions on everything from where in the field to apply a particular rate, to when it is best to apply chemical, fertiliser or water. Besides, the sensor continuously monitors and provides disease predictions of the pepper for the farmers so that they will have the timely intervention.

Vietnam, the world’s largest country in cultivating and exporting black peppers, is our potential market. During 2016 Vietnam topped the list with a crop of 163,000 tons, more than 40% share of global production. Playing the market leader‘s role, Vietnam set the benchmark for the global pepper price. Despite the high volumes of pepper produced and exported per annum, the lack of modern agricultural technology for pepper farming has caused planters to face serious problems, which dramatically reduced the pepper yield.
